Catrina Poor, mezzo-soprano, originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, is a young lyric mezzo-soprano with an international career already spanning Europe, Asia and the United States.  

 

Catrina’s 2014-2015 season brings exciting concert debuts with the Cosmos Chamber Ensemble in Vienna, Austria as their resident mezzo soloist, including performances of Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Respighi’s Il Tramonto and in their memorial concert WWI, 100 years after The Great War. She will appear as a mezzo soloist in the Vienna Passion Artist’s Opera and Operetta concert series, and with the Papageno Kinderoper in the role of Amneris in Verdi’s Aida. Catrina also served as a guest artist for the Jakarta Music School in Indonesia, leading a series of masterclasses on the subject of Aria and German Lieder and featuring in several solo concerts with pianist Hazim Suhadi. 

 

The 2013-2014 season saw Catrina performing in a variety of new roles and countries, including concert performances in Rogaška Slatina, Slovenia, Puchberg am Schneeberg, Austria, the role of The Opera Singer in the two-player contemporary one-act Oper der Stadt Köln written for the Berlin Theater Festival, and the debut of her Pergolesi Stabat Mater at the Vienna Peterskirche, a performance described as „ascendingly beautiful“.  During the spring of 2014, she joined the Vienna Passion Artists, performing as Hänsel in their Hänsel und Gretel. 

 

 

Having recently completed her Austrian Artists Certificate with Highest Honors in the field of Lied and Oratorio under the tutelage of Herr Professor Walter Moore at Prayner Konservatorium für Musik und Dramatische Kunst, Catrina has been seen on both the operatic and the concert stage. Under the baton of Maestro Maksimilijan Cencic, she was seen in such roles as Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito, the title role in Bizet’s Carmen, Gianetta in L’elisir d’amor,  Mistress Quickly in Verdi’s Falstaff and Marthe in Gounod’s Faust. Her performance as Carmen was described as „hoch erotische“, „an electrifying performance, commanding and intimate“

This year, Ms. Poor received the Austrian Artists Certificate with Highest Honors in the field of Lied and Oratorio, studying under the internationally respected Herr. Professor Walter Moore and such excellent artists as conductor Maestro Maksimillian Cenčić, mezzo-soprano Paulette V. Herbich and coaches Yumiko Osaragi and Ljerka Cenčić. 

 

Equally at home on the Opera and the Musical Theater stage, Catrina holds a degree in Vocal Performance from Lawrence University and Conservatory in Appleton, Wisconsin, where she graduated Cum Laude under the tutelage of Karen Leigh Post. Catrina has been seen in such roles as The Old Lady in Bernstein’s Candide, The Lay Sister in Suor Angelica, The Salvation Army Girl in Street Scene, The Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, Angel in Anything Goes, and the Nurse in Oliver. She has performed with such prestigious conductors as Bonnie Koestner (of the San Fransisco Opera and Glimmerglass Opera in New York), and David Becker (of the UW Symphony Orchestra, Madison Symphony). She performed in the award-winning Lawrence University Concert Choir, led by Professor Richard Bjella, with the internationally reknowned conductor and organist Sir Philip Brunelle’s Plymouth Church Choir and was the leading alto soloist at Appleton Wisconsin’s First Congregational Church.
